LOCAL ANESTHESIA – DIVIDED INTO A BASIC COURSE AND AN ADVANCED COURSE
Basalt course on 3 November 2023
Covers the entire dog with the most common blockages.
You can settle for day 1 or continue with the advanced part on day 2.
Advanced course on 4 November 2023
On this day, ultrasound-guided blocks, nerve stimulators, wound catheters etc. will be taught.
You can also choose to participate on day 1.
About the course
Local anesthesia is becoming more and more important and integrated in many of our operations. This course is a practical course where you can learn how to apply the various nerve blocks so that our patients are well anesthetized during and after surgery. There will be teaching in ultrasound-guided blockades and nerve stimulation in the advanced part
The number of participants is limited due to practical exercises.

Local Anaesthetic Techniques
Course Outline
You will leave this course with the confidence to perform each technique studied. The combination of tutorials and practical sessions will give you the opportunity to understand the theory behind each technique, then practice it with the support of the course tutors.
As well as comprehensive review of local anaesthetic techniques this course will cover the integration of loco-regional techniques with other approaches used for multimodal analgesia.
To include:
- Local anaesthetic techniques for orthopaedic, soft tissue and dental procedures.
- How to use nerve locators and which techniques is this appropriate for.
- Epidural and spinal anaesthesia.
- An introduction to the use of ultrasound for nerve blocks.
This course is relevant to general practitioners, diploma standard nurses as well those studying for further qualifications in anaesthesia.
Teachers
Carl Bradbrook (BVSc CertVA MRCVS DECVAA) is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and upskills multiple British specialist hospitals on advanced treatments for critical care patients. In 2009 Carl established ACE Vets, a UK based anaesthesia consultancy service. Carl is a popular and devoted speaker who shares his expertise with global audiences.
Matthew Gurney (BVSc CertVA DECVAA MRCVS) is an internationally respected British anaesthetist. A specialist in anaesthesia and analgesia, Matthew trained at the University of Liverpool Veterinary School and now works in private referral practice in the UK. Matt is passionate about pain management, lectures on the subject globally and is the author of many international anaesthesia publications.
